DPIIT recognition, Udyam and incorporation

Understand the differences and find the official application and eligibility information.

Three registrations, different purposes

Incorporation creates a company through MCA. DPIIT recognition identifies eligible startups under the Startup India framework. Udyam is the government’s MSME registration system. These are distinct processes; a number from one is not a substitute for another.

Use the current DPIIT eligibility rules

Start with Startup India’s recognition page and follow its official application route. Read the current criteria for entity type, age, turnover and the nature of the business, and check the supporting material requested. Do not reuse a threshold copied from an old blog or someone else’s certificate.

Recognition and tax exemption have separate application information on the official portal. Recognition alone is not a promise of a grant, investment or every tax benefit. Check the conditions of each benefit separately.

Use the official Udyam portal

The Ministry of MSME describes Udyam registration as free, online, paperless and based on self-declaration. The portal explains the Aadhaar, PAN and GST-related requirements, including applicability conditions. Check those instructions before beginning.

Check the address carefully: udyamregistration.gov.in. A commercial site charging for help is not the same as the official registration service. Keep your own contact details and access to your application.
